No referral is needed for a private physiotherapy appointment. A valid GP referral is required if you attend under a Medicare GP Chronic Condition Management Plan.
Yes. Most patients are not elite athletes. The clinic treats back and neck pain, shoulder and knee problems, muscle and tendon injuries, work-related symptoms and many other everyday musculoskeletal problems.
We discuss what has happened, what affects the problem and what you want to return to. I assess the relevant movement, strength and function, explain the findings and agree on the first steps with you. Treatment begins on the day where appropriate.

It depends on the problem, how long it has been there and what you need to get back to. After the first assessment I will give you an honest estimate and explain what would change it. Some people need one or two appointments and a plan to follow at home. Others need regular sessions over several weeks.
Usually, yes. Most plans include a small number of exercises matched to what you can manage, so you keep progressing between appointments. They are shown and practised in the session, and changed as your symptoms and goals change.

Wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in and that allow the relevant area to be assessed. Bring useful scan reports, referral letters, operation notes and your current exercise program. Bring your health fund card if you want to claim a rebate on the day.
Yes. Eligible extras rebates are processed through Tyro Health at the appointment, and you pay the remaining gap. Your rebate depends on your fund and level of cover.

Medicare GP Chronic Condition Management Plans are accepted with a valid GP referral, with a gap payable. GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements made before 1 July 2025 are accepted until 30 June 2027. WorkCover, TAC and DVA are not accepted at Bridge Road Physiotherapy.
Yes. Online initial consultations are 45 minutes and online reviews are 30 minutes. They suit many rehabilitation reviews, exercise progressions and people unable to attend in person. Some problems need an in-person examination or medical review. I will advise you if your presentation needs one.

Bridge Road has two-hour paid parking with the first hour free, and Palmer Street behind it has free one-hour and two-hour parking. Trams 48 and 75 stop close by. Full parking and tram details.
Patients come from Richmond and nearby suburbs, including Hawthorn, Abbotsford, East Melbourne, South Yarra, Malvern, Toorak and Kew. Everyone is welcome. Trams 48 and 75 stop close to the clinic on Bridge Road, and the parking and transport notes cover the rest.
Enter through the main Uplift Gym entrance at 507 Bridge Road. Take a seat near the entrance and I will meet you at your appointment time. There is no clinic reception desk and no gym membership is required. If the door is locked, call 0458 007 583.
Yes. A parent, partner, carer, interpreter or coach is welcome with your consent. For junior patients, a parent or guardian should attend as required.
Please let me know by phone call or text message on 0458 007 583. If you arrive late, the appointment might need to finish at its booked time so other patients are not delayed, and the full fee still applies.
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments might incur a fee of up to the full appointment cost. Genuine emergencies are considered individually.
